Microsoft Office is perhaps the most commonly utilized software in the world. It has gained a groundbreaking achievement since its establishment in 2001. In the last two decades, Office has had several upgrades, with extra features being added each time, and the recently launched Office Setup is Office 2019, which can be downloaded from office.com/setup, along with that the current version also includes eight versions – Office 365, Professional Plus, Enterprise, Microsoft Office Ultimate, Home and Student, etc. Microsoft office can be set up on Windows and Mac.
Depending upon the preferences of each individual, there are various versions of the software, and not all of them have the same features and functionality. Microsoft Office 2019 and Office 365 are significantly different, Office 365 is a cloud-based subscription, with all the updated tools, whereas, Office 2019 means making an onetime purchase, and paying for each update. This can be installed either on Mac or Windows. Office 2019 does not offer its users a cloud-based subscription-like office 365.
Latest Office Version vs. Previous Versions
Office 2019 is Microsoft Office’s current version, which appears to be released in three editions, Home and Student 2019 for PC/ Mac, Home and Business 2019 for PC/ Mac, and Microsoft Office Professional 2019. The version of desktop vary significantly than Office 365. Consumers can purchase the annual version and pay for the software just once, while Office 365 is a membership and cloud-based product providing continually upgraded variations of the Office services.
The previous versions of Microsoft Office are currently available for use and are maintained by Microsoft. They go far back to 2010, but Office 2016 is the most common pre-2019 version. There is some varying difference among the functionalities of Microsoft Office in PC and Mac. The variations arise largely because of the way Office functions, instead of, a difference between the software, which is included in Microsoft Office.
The latest edition of MS office comes in four different versions;
- Home and Student: can be installed on both PC and Mac. It includes applications like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. This version also contains OneNote, which is ideal for note-taking that enables individuals to create notes using text, photos, audio, weblinks, and other such stuff.
- Home and Business: can be used on both PC and Mac. It includes applications like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Rather than OneNote, this version consists of Outlook that enables users to manage emails that are integral for managing a business. With the app, users can track and handle meetings, and different projects conveniently.
- Office Standard: This version allows users to access the main applications, like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook. Seen as an elongated version of the Home and Business version, it allows users to control emails, make newsletters, posters, etc.
- Office Professional: Microsoft Office Professional allows users to access Microsoft Access, which is a strong database beneficial for businesses.
Before this, Microsoft Office 2016 was widely installed by users across the world for its functionality. It contains cloud storage, all the main applications. And the older version is still used, but they won’t have high functionality like Office 2019 or Office 2016. The latest version contains new features in Excel spreadsheets, New templates for PowerPoint, along with other features that make it distinctive from the rest. The interconnectivity that is found in the latest version of MS office, such as Microsoft Office 2019 and Office 2016, are not found in older versions. But, Office 365 does contain similar features of the software like the Office 2016 version.
